1. Your Brakes Are Loud

Squealing is the first sign of a brake issue, but if they are grinding, you have more problems than just your brakes. Your rotors are probably worn down as well, which is a more expensive job. Don't ignore sounds your vehicle is making, it could be costly if you do.

2. Your Brake Pedal Feels Like It's Going Through The Floor

If stopping your vehicle is requiring you to brake so hard that your foot feels like it's going to go through the floorboard, it may be time to have your brakes inspected. A light press of the brake pedal should get you to slow down and nearly stop, so if you're pressing the pedal this hard, it's an issue you should have looked into. You may have a different type of brake issue that has nothing to do with the brake pads at all, but rather the pedal mechanism. Either way, it should be looked into.

3. Your Vehicle Isn't Stopping

If you aren't able to stop your vehicle completely without using the emergency brake, and you are just coasting through stop signs or red lights, you need to pull your vehicle over immediately and have it towed to a brake repair shop. Driving this way is very dangerous, and you could end up injuring yourself or others on the road with you. If your vehicle cannot stop, it shouldn't be on the road. Stop your vehicle, and have it towed to be repaired.
