3 Signs Your Transmission Is Going Out

Your transmission is essential to your vehicle. It's responsible for moving your vehicle. If your transmission is not in good shape, or it has gone out completely, you will have a very difficult job moving your vehicle. There are signs that you can watch out for that may indicate you are having a transmission problem. If you do spot these signs, or you notice that your vehicle is having issues, you should take your vehicle to a transmission repair shop for a repair. Read on for a few signs that you are experiencing a transmission problem in your vehicle.

1. Vehicle Slipping Out Of Gear

If you are driving and your vehicle seems to be slipping in and out of gear, it may be a transmission issue. You may notice that your vehicle suddenly downshifts when it shouldn't, or you may notice that it is difficult to get your vehicle to move into other gears. This is an indication that your transmission is not working as it should. Your vehicle should move through its gears easily and you should be able to put it into drive or reverse easily as well.

2. Odd Noises And Grinding

If you notice odd noises as you drive, or you feel a grinding in your vehicle as you are accelerating or moving through your gears, it may be due to your transmission wearing out. The gears in the transmission may be too worn, they are not moving as they should, and are instead grinding on one another. If you feel or hear anything odd as you drive, have it checked out immediately to prevent it from worsening. Do not continue to drive your vehicle, as you could end up in an accident or stranded when your vehicle will no longer move on it's own.

3. Burning Smells

If you smell anything burning in your vehicle, take it immediately to an auto repair shop to have it looked into. A burning odor in your vehicle is never good, and whatever is burning is only going to worsen as you continue to drive it. The burning odors may be the parts within the transmission or elsewhere on your vehicle rubbing against one another. This friction is causing the burning odors.

If you notice any of these signs, it could be a transmission issue. Take your vehicle to an auto repair shop to have your transmission inspected and repaired as needed.
